Message from the Superintendent
I appreciate you taking the time to read about what's been happening within our Department.  Please feel free to give me a call with any questions you may have.

I would to like to mention that our Rules and Regulations regarding payment of your bill has changed effective January 1, 2016. The New policy specifically states that your water bill must be paid within 45 days of invoicing to avoid termination of service.  I encourage you to read the back of your water bills, where the new policy is located.  We have made the changes in order to improve cash flow to the Department.   Please call our office if you have any questions regarding that change.

Water Infrastructure Nationwide is becoming a real focus. Please take a look at the following article  http://www.waterworld.com/articles/print/volume-33/issue-2/features/rejuvenating-america-s-water.html

We recently replaced 900 ft of water main on Camden St and Bewrymn St between Vivianni St. and Lawn St.  We have begun the design phase of the Newton St. water main replacement project.  Our goal is to have this project out to bid this winter and begin in april of 2018.

In response to the recent incident regarding the Lead issue in Flint, Michigan, we would like to ensure our customers that our Lead and Copper levels are below the the national standard.  As mentioned within our annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) we inject Sodium Silicate, which increases the PH and provides a microscopic coating on the inside of the plumbing systems to prevent Lead and Copper from leaching into the Drinking Water.  Our most recent testing round of 30 Samples in addition to two schools were taken the first week of June 2016.  We are pleased to inform you that all of the 30 homes and the two schools (Plains Elementary and Brighter Beginnings Daycare) came back well below the national standards for Lead and Copper.  This success is due to the succeful sampling of the residents and staff at these locations.  If you have questions on this process or would like a copy of the results from the sampling, please call our office or email me at jacyr@shdistrict1.org. We have also placed an informative document from the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) under FAQ's on the front page of our website.

Respectfully,

Jeffrey Cyr
